There is a count down before the curtain rises for every TEDx talk. As a speaker, emotions swirl from the beginning our story’s creation until its delivery on that infamous circular red carpet.
When the application to speak appeared, it was as if the red carpet was calling. Calling me to share some thoughts – these thoughts would join the other multitude of inspiring thoughts that I have listened to and loved over the past years with TED and TEDx. I accepted the red carpet’s challenge. I chose to step up and join the chorus of ideas helping us collaborate in the shifting – developing – and ultimately, healing of our world.
As an actor, teacher, trainer, and coach, I have focused on freeing voices via communication across the world – both literally and figuratively. My passion for communication has deepened as we’ve moved through the pandemic and economic crisis. The world is hurting deeply, and it became necessary to shift, to deepen, to laser in on one element of understanding things impacting our communication. We must understand our basic assumptions – our own bias – so that we can respond to each other in a productive, transformational manner.
The red carpet is calling.
While preparing, I am feeling awesome. TEDx is an amazing gift to the world and I get to share my gift with others. I am also feeling heavy because I aim to deliver the inspiration a TEDx audience deserves. I am feeling playful because the audience deserves fun. It’s fun to craft a talk that will provide different approaches to thinking for the audience. Not least of all, I am feeling honored and excited. Giving a TEDx talk is a wicked cool – daunting – exhilarating – challenging – and scary undertaking. So let’s do this!
I welcome the moment it’s time to step out onto that circular red carpet. The curtain is rising – the audience is ready – let’s create – collaborate – provide connection, insight, and difference.
As a champion of voices – literally and figuratively – we must embrace all the emotions that are in our present world. Knowing that we can shift the perspective, the energy, and purpose of each to support our growth and learning.
The red carpet is calling!
