I feel honored to be a part of the TEDxCherryCreekCountdown and to contribute to a collective of ideas and actions needed to reach a zero-carbon world. The TEDx stage provides a unique platform to spread awareness of the greatest challenges and opportunities that we face in the climate crisis.
Climate change presents the world with an enormous challenge. This challenge is exacerbated by systemic racism and extensive economic and public health inequalities across society. However, these challenges come with the opportunity to replace our malfunctioning systems with economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable alternatives.
Many communities and organizations have recognized the urgency of rapidly transitioning to 100% clean energy. Unfortunately, the way in which most goals to be powered by 100% clean energy are set and attained fail to actually decarbonize the energy systems we are plugged into. Changing our mindset and adopting a holistic recognition of the larger energy networks that we need to change is critical to enabling a rapid and equitable transition to clean energy.
It has certainly been a humbling process so far and I am grateful for the path to the TEDx stage this fall. It is challenging and at times nerve-racking to distill a topic that I am immensely passionate about, and that I believe has the ability to meaningfully accelerate the transition to 100% clean energy, into a ten-minute talk. I appreciate the support of my family, the TEDx community, and unsuspecting friends in helping me practice and convey an actionable set of solutions to more rapidly tackling climate change.
The TEDxCherryCreekCountdown provides an incredible opportunity to channel my passion into a clear and concise message. It establishes a foundation from which to plant the seed of an idea that removes financial barriers to renewable energy deployment, while creating additional community benefits. I’m optimistic about the clean energy transition and am committed to continuing to spread the message and offer support for others seeking to implement, expand on, and shape my ideas with their own.
