It was a warm Friday night. I had just gotten off work and walked in the door. I heard my mother calling my name from her bedroom upstairs.
I go up and she tells me to get my computer. I don’t ask any questions and I simply comply. I re-enter her room and she tells me I’m going to be applying for a TED talk (the application was due in the next few hours).
Naturally I scrambled to fill out my personal information and the main reason why I wanted to apply, but as I continued to put more thought into my application I realized that there is a much bigger purpose to this event. I realized that this TEDx could be a large scale form to educate the masses on one of my biggest passion; environmental sustainability.
I applied and to my surprise I was accepted! I was ecstatic and overwhelmed with pride when I found out. I was also overcome with an inconceivable amount of stress. As a 17 year old high school senior I’m expected to withhold dozens of responsibilities, apply for college, successfully manage my time and attempt to make some money for school as well as myself in the process.
Despite the external stresses in my life I am so eternally grateful to be a part of an educational movement such as this. My heart is full with so much love and anticipation. I hope I am able to lovingly educate people and not disappoint. Thank you TEDx for including me in your beautiful family.
