I applied to be a TEDx speaker because I believe it is critical that more people view climate change as a health emergency.
I am hopeful that by increasing communication and education regarding the ways in which human health is being negatively impacted by climate change, more people will be motivated to take action to mitigate the effects of climate change.
I am thrilled to have the chance to educate others about climate change and health. Having the opportunity to effectively communicate this topic to a wide audience is a huge responsibility, and I want to be sure that I am engaging and motivating listeners to the best of my ability.
I hope to convey a sense of urgency in the need for action by informing people about how their own individual health, as well as the health of everyone around them for generations to come, depends on the actions we take now.
I am looking forward to shaping and refining my talk over the next month and cannot wait to share it with everyone in October! So far, the biggest challenge has been trying to condense a massive amount of extremely important information into a short talk.
It is very difficult to convey the gravity of climate change’s effect on health in such a short period of time! It has been both challenging and gratifying to learn how to better communicate these concepts in the most succinct and effective way I can.
The best part of this process so far has been meeting the incredible speakers! I feel so lucky to be included in this process with them. Each speaker is so inspiring, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to listen to their ideas worth spreading and to learn from them. I’m looking forward to hearing their talks in October!
