When Voices Rock! learned about the opportunity to get involved with TEDxCherryCreek, there was no question that we wanted to participate. We knew we wanted to be a part of this program because there is no better platform to share our message with the world – which, by the way, perfectly coincides with this year’s TEDx theme of “showing up.”
We are all about showing up. When our executive and musical directors – Betsy Marino Leighton and Jill Teas – founded Voices Rock! in 2014, they did so with the fervent belief that anyone can – and should! – enjoy making music, no matter their skill level. When you sing with us you are engaging in meaningful participation in your community, and singing together can be simple, fun, and bring joy to others in unexpected ways. Most importantly, when you “show up” to Voices Rock!, you are putting out a small but powerful message into the world that reverberates further than you can imagine.
The TEDx journey has been a whirlwind. A warm, inviting, inspirational whirlwind, but a whirlwind nonetheless! At our orientation meeting, our small team experienced a collective realization: oh man, this is really happening. That thrill has galvanized us into preparation like never before, and the buzz in our rehearsals about our upcoming TEDx performance is palpable. Everyone is so excited (and yes, nervous!) to be on this new, huge stage.
The energy that the TEDxCherryCreek team has passed on to us is invaluable, and we can already feel it propelling us into future success. Where Voices Rock! started with 20 people singing in a bar on Colfax, we’re now more than 150 strong and have sung at world-renowned venues like Red Rocks. With the support of TEDx this November, our reach is on its way to being absolutely limitless.
